What Are “do follow” and “no follow” backlinks ?

Even experienced blogger don’t know what are the “do follow” link and “no follow” backlinks, and that’s why they don’t know this difference and it’s importance to their blog. Also new user should also have know about the difference between “do follow” link and “no follow” link. If you have a blog, then you should have to know how important are backlinks in the success of a blog. In SEO terms there are two types of backlinks do follow and no follow. Before i tell you the difference, first you have to know more about backlinks.

What are the backlinks?

Backlinks are the incoming links to your blog. Backlinks are also known as inbound links, incoming links or inward links.

Why Backlinks Effect a Blog?

The most key factors, which boost your page rank and make your blog appearing in first page in search engines, are backlinks. To get good page rank meaning high rank in search engines, you have to give a complete focus on building backlinks mix proportion of “do follow” and “no follow” backlinks.

Difference Between “do follow” and “no follow” backlinks:

Here is an example which helps you to understand this difference.

When Google Search engine crawler crawl the whole content of a blog. Whenever it find a link in a post (if that link is a “do follow” backlink) then the crawler follow that link and land on webpage of that link. If that link is a “no follow” link, then the crawler will not follow that link and don’t land on webpage of that link.


If you want to get high rank on Google then you have to focus on these “dofollow” backlinks and that’s why you have to get more and more “do follow” links from top rank websites so whenever Google crawler crawls those websites it will land to your blog and then, Google will give you a high rank when it complete its crawling process.

How to check a link is “Do follow” or “No follow” ?

This Test is based on Google Chrome, so only google chrome user can do this.

1: Right-click on any link (if any) in your published post and then left-click on inspect element.

2: At the bottom of the page, a javascript menu will appear where you can see that whether that link was a do follow or no follow.

How to Handle them?

If your content is genuine and unique but you also have to give a link to other website then you always try give” no follow” link to that website.

How to give no follow link?

When you are going to give a link just check the box in red label.

Why It is also important to give “do follow ” backlinks?

Actually It is equally important to give “do follow ” link to the outgoing links to other websites when you copy paste the the content from that website.

Internal Pages and “do follow” backlink:

It is very important to keep in mind that whenever you are going to give a link to your own post or a page do not give “no follow” link to the post or a page of your own blog.
