What is On-Page SEO?
On-page SEO is a process of optimizing the specific sections of your website/blog content to make it more clear and simple for search engines like google, bing and etc so that search engine can easily assign a rank to your site. So it is your responsibility that all of your website/blog contentss meet the demands of search engines. Due to change in the demography of SEO you have to change the way you perceive On-page SEO. That is what, i am going to look at now.
This is a fact if your website is not properly on-page SEO optimized then your efforts such as link building, social networking and marketing will not yield significant results. There is nothing which provides complete rule book on on-page optimization and that’s why no body can say that do this this and this to optimize On-page and your page rank will rise. On-page SEO optimization is actually based on analytics, estimates and errors. The important thing to keep in your mindis that if you don’t take care of your on-page SEO, you’ll stay behind in page ranking.
Why The Clamor?
Let’s first we clear this one: Why the clamor about on-page SEO?
As the demography of search engine algorithms has changed so now it becomes very difficult to choose factors to perform On-page SEO optimization and hence you can no longer rely on keywords, inbound links, meta and alt tags alone. On-page SEO optimization is concerned with you site loading time, how your site works, what is the size (of HTML) of your site and how it responds to different screens?
I think now you have well knowledge about what is on-page SEO and its foundation so let’s come to the next topic the ‘Tips & Techniques’. i will try to be straight forward with each tips and techniques.
Tips & Techniques:
From my experience in SEO, you can fool Google, but you cannot beat it because Google will make a fool of you and you can’t even imagine what it will do with you. Google’s improved algorithms has changed the way of ranking a websites/blog, hence makes it difficult to perform SEO. It doesn’t mean that you can’t improve your website/blog page rank and perform on-page SEO. But the followings tips are also there to overcome these issues.
Title Tags and Meta Description
We used Title tags and meta description since their arrival. These are crucial for SEO because the search engines gives them big attention. Do you know that the average person usually pick the most attractive result among the first 3 results? So from the SEO point of view make sure to follow these points:
- Make Stunning and Eye-Catching title & description.
- Include your targeted keyword in the title and also in description.
- Limit title to 65 characters because most of the search engines shows only the first 65 characters and cut the rest.
- Limit description to 160 characters because it is important for a better SEO and most of the search engines shows only the first 160 characters.
Alt Tags of Images
Add alt tags to your images which is related to your content. Alt tag is your targeted/desired keyword(s). Always make sure to put your targeted keyword(s) in alt tags of images, Suppose you have two targeted keywords then add one keyword in alt tags of some images and second keyword in alt tags of other remaining images.
Warning : Do NOT use same keyword in alt tags of all images. Because putting the same keyword in alt tags of all images in the same page/post may rise a red flag to Google. So always make sure to put different keywords. You can use same keyword for maximum FIVE images. You can put 2 to 3 words(keywords) in alt tag.
It is even better if you put an alt tag that explains that image. But also put the targeted keyword with the keyword which explains the image. This trick will bring more targeted visitors via Google images.
Many people think that the more they use their targeted keyword in their articles/posts the good it is for SEO, and this perception is totally wrong. I explain this why it is wrong? If you use your targeted keywords in every single image and after every line of your article, it will raise a red flag to the search engines. But also you have to mention your keyword(s) in your articles. So try to make some balance and make sure your web page keyword density is in between 4% to 7%.
It is extremely important to make it easy for search engine’s spider to travel in your webpages. The best way to do that is building strong internal links inside your website pages. This trick will help spiders and make it easy for them to visit all of your posts and pages and ultimately search engines will assign a rank to your pages. Also keep in your mind that don’t give to many internal links just give those internal links that are related to your article. Note: Always give “dofollow” links to your internal posts and pages otherwise spiders will not visit those links which are “nofollow”. If you don’t know about dofollow and nofollow then it is strongly recommended to read this article: What Are “do follow” and “no follow” backlinks?
Try to build more and more “do follow” backlinks as these are the links which increase your page rank. Dofollow backlinks affects your on-page SEO in positive way. This is also important for you to get external backlinks from website having high page rank. Although i know it is very hard to get dofollow backlinks from strong websites. But you can still get dofollow backlinks easily. To get 100% dofollow backlinks easily read this article: 6 Dofollow Blogging Communities to Submit your Blog Posts
Pay attention to the following issues before giving external link to others:
- Try to link to related websites.
- Try to link to websites with high page rank.
- Try to give ‘nofollow’ link (if your content is genuine).
- Don’t give links to your competitor.
- Don’t give link to your own websites(if any).
It is extremely important to include your targeted keyword(s) in your post/page URL. It is important to note that don’t make a short URL (like example.com/seo) because by doing this search engines will not give rank to those URLs. It is also important to note that don’t include ‘a’, ‘an’, ‘or’ and ‘dots’ in your URL.
Another crucial factor in on-page SEO is having a unique, relevant and golden content. This is the ultimate factor of SEO because if you have quality content in your posts then other will give dofollow backlinks to you and you will get high traffic and ultimately a high rank in search engines. So try to include high quality golden content in you webpage. Please note that putting images in webpages/posts is also crucial because, from my experience, most of traffic comes from images. Try to publish lengthy articles because it is also important and Google bless you with high traffic if you have lengthy articles in your website. Note: Google hates duplicate contents so avoid duplicate contents and write your own article.
Make sure your website don’t have a dead page that only shows the error. Try to fix these pages. You can remove these pages through Google Webmaster and Bing Webmaster.
If your website is powered by WordPress then it is very easier to redirect 404 pages. Just install a ‘404 redirection’ plugin. After this you have need to upload and activate it. It will then automatically redirect all of your 404 web pages to the homepage of yur website.
Non-www or www ?
Most people think that it doesn’t matter Whether your website begins with www or non-www, But it is totally wrong concept. Using non-www is also an important factor in SEO, so make sure your website begins with non-www for example your website must look like Yourwebsite.com rather than www.Yourwebsite.com
To redirect your www website to non-www website, follow these steps:
- Go to the cPanel.
- Click “Domains” > “Redirects”
- In the box fill this:
- Permanent (301)
- redirects > http://yourdomain.com
- Choose “Only redirect with www”.
Click on Add button.
Website Loading Speed
The loading speed of your website is also matter. Always try to improve your website loading speed. If your website is not hosted on a good server, you can’t improve your website loading speed or can improve to the limited extent. Also reduce image sizes before uploading.
On-page SEO is not just about the meta tags, code and the URLs but it’s about how your website communicate with the user and the search engine spiders. On-page SEO is about to make sure your website is accessible and readable. It’s about also about to make sure your website has enough information for the search engines to pick up easily.
